Anime and Manga Corner

Yo Peps! Mu-tan here!

And Yuki-san…

Welcome to our Anime and Manga corner!

As can be seen by the heading…

Obviously…

…this is where we will be discussing anything related to anime and manga!

Once again, obvious…

Be it recommendations,

Or talks about the different genres,

This section will talk specifically about it!

*NOTE: This is a personal blog, which means 74.99999999% of the information in this section is based on my interpretation. If there are any strong objections, please do not spam! I REPEAT. This section is based on what I think and any reference from here must be confirmed with another website. Thank you for your co-operation.

If not, please enjoy~!

**From now onwards, we will accept any questions about what type of manga or anime you are looking for based on genre(s) and we will try to help you the best we can. However, we do not accept the following due to our limits and we seek your understanding: Adult, Hentai, Lolicon, Shotacon, Yaoi, Yuri.
______________________________________________

Whee~

Why are you so happy?

‘It’s the season to be jolly~ Tra lalalala lalalala~’

Oh right… Christmas season…

Yup~

So what anime are we going to introduce this time?

Since it’s Christmas, let’s go back to its roots~

To its roots?

England, desu. ENGLAND~!

Okay, okay. Wakata… (Mu-tan must be high on sugar-rush again...)

Soyuwakete… Introducing ‘Kuroshitsuji’~

H-Hey! Ch-chotomate! Wait for me!
______________________________________________

Kuroshitsuji (Anime; 24 episodes)

Genres: Comedy, Fantasy, Mystery, Shounen, Supernatural

Kuroshitsuji, or literally Black Butler, is a fantasy story situated in Victorian era London, England. In a manor house on the outskirts of the city, loyal butler Sebastian Michaelis serves Ciel Phantomhive, the twelve-year-old head of an English noble family and a toy and candy empire. Sebastian carries out any task required by his master, no matter how demanding it might seem. Though it seems to be like a normal noble family household, the Phantomhives have a history to serve directly under the Queen, while secretly solving the problems plaguing England with ease and perfection. And just when you think that this is enough, think again: Sebastian is a demon and has a Faustian contract with his master.

Compared to other animes where the surroundings are usually blurred out or lack details, Kuroshitsuji is one of the few animes that places emphasis on every single one of those minuet details. And considering that this story takes place in the Victorian era, anyone would be awed by the detailed architecture, even though it is “just an anime”.

One of my favorite catch-phrases from this series would probably be Sebastian’s "Because I am one hell of a butler" (わたしはあくまで執事ですから, Aku made shitsuji desu kara), where it plays on the word "demon" (あくま, akuma) and the phrase "to the end" (あくまで, aku made). It can also translate to "I am a demon and a butler".

Although it has a fantasy as one of its genres, it does not place much emphasis in that field, which will probably upset a lot of fantasy-lovers. It, however, makes it up with its intriguing mystery plotline, where the truth is usually something totally unexpected.

And let’s not forget the numerous comedy scenes that are sure to make your stomach hurt from sheer laughter…

And once again, for the love of god, please do not think of this as ‘shotacon’ as the fansites say… It is very disturbing for some otakus (like me)…

Rating: 9/10 <<<<<<<<< D

In the nutshell: Backgrounds filled with beautiful historical architecture from the Victorian era: A dream come through and a must-see for all art-loving otakus. Also highly recommended for people who love stories situated back in the past, but a dangerous pick for anyone who cannot stand a second without modern technology. Fantasy lovers may want to watch an alternative.

Yesterday, I went out with Benson and Wei Qiang to Takashimaya to spend our Kinokuniya Vouchers...

Once again, I need not say that it is my first time going there...

And due to my inexperience with buses, I took the wrong direction bus and ended up taking a tour around Jurong Islands~

Whee...

Sorry once again for being such an inconvenience, Benson and Wei Qiang~

Along the way to Takashimaya, we practically went into many clothes shops... With the two guys as the leader! I was quite PLEASANTLY surprised, considering that they are the first few MALES I've seen do their own shopping...

Not to mention they are pretty good at it too~!

After lunch, spent 3 hours browsing for books to buy...

What can I say? Spoilt for choice...

I ended up getting a mystery story and an art book on fantasy drawing... Forgot what Benson and Wei Qiang bought though~

Since I loaned my aunt's Kinokuniya Card, we managed to get 20% off our books...

We didn't expect that the cashier would return us the balance of the vouchers~ Lucky!

After buying our books, we continue venturing somemore...

However, with a new objective in mind... Getting my New Year's skirt...
Those two seemed pretty Hyped by the thought...

Why ask them, you ask~?

For a closet freak like me to do my own shopping because my mum refuses to buy me anymore clothes due to the fact that I am an extremely fussy person when it comes to my clothes, it can be considered an impossible job considering that I am terrible with clothes trends... Not to mention that in the event I could not find anything suitable to buy before I return home, my mum was going to drag me for another boring round of clothes shopping, where the standards are so hopeless that even for a closet freak like me, can safely say that the clothes are 'Auntie'...

So, I ended up asking them...

But since I AM an EXTREMELY fussy shopper, I did not buy anything...

Sorry if I piss you two off...

Oh great... Another round of clothes shopping with my dear mother...

Oh yeah, Yuki-san~?

Hmm?

You realise that Mun Teng is extremely quiet~?

Now that you mention it, she seems pissed...

...

What is it this time?

Remember that I said that I'm not taking a part-time job due to my uneven schedule...

Yeah~

... and the fact that I'm helping my grandmother at her house as the maid went home...?

So?

My parents are treating me like a maid now...

...
...

Could it be some misunderstanding?

When I asked my mum for a reason, her reply was:
Since you're not taking a part-time job, then you should do MORE housework~!

It's not that bad...

If being ordered around like in my CCA to start "work" at 10 am everyday (with exception if I were to go out) to do housework that are supposed to be done by my parents (except copking; My cooking sucks), having a 40 mins meal-break, and ending at 8.30pm at night, without even a simple "Thank you", scolding me if I put on a long face (yes, they force me to work with a HAPPY face), and forcing me to sleep at 10.30pm (meaning only 2 hours to do my own things) is considered reasonable, then by all means I'll stop arguing...

...
...

Okay, it's THAT bad...

Well, at least it is less demanding at my grandparent's house where my aunts helped me, which I GREATLY appreciate...

Surprisingly, they also gave me Christmas presents as a 'thanks' for taking care of the housework in my grandmother's house... I was just expecting a 'thank you' which they had already gave me...

Wow~!

Which still makes me pissed at the fact that my parents take me for granted, with orders like "Mun Teng, wash the dishes.", "Mun Teng, iron the clothes."-

OKAY! That's enough...

_ _ _

By the way, I'm helping out Rui Ting in HER part-time job on Saturday...

At least then I can momentarily "relax" before-

OKAY~! Let's end this here before it gets out of hand...

YUKI-SAN~!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmm? What is it, Mu-tan?

Someone ACTUALLY read the Anime and Manga Corner~!!!

EH?! That’s amazing! It was Eng Hoong, right?

Yup! Thank you SO MUCH for reading!

Kind of gives you encouragement, doesn’t it… Since it felt like I'm typing(talking) to a wall...

Yeah~!

Must be because of the 3rd chapter recommendation to the ‘Higurashi’ ser-

Actually, it was the 2nd chapter recommendation…

Oh…

...

What genre was it again?

‘Gender-Bending’~

Okay, to celebrate (and to grant Eng Hoong’s request), we will introduce another Gender-Bending manga…

But then again, there aren’t many GOOD Gender-Bending manga out there…

Yeah, you’re right…

We will have to start resourcing for more soon~!

But that also means that the next chapter can't be something on Gender-Bending too...
______________________________________________

Pretty Face (Manga; 6 volumes)

Genre: Comedy, Ecchi(>15), Gender-Bending, Romance, School Life, Shounen, Slice of Life

Pretty Face is romance comedy that involves high school karate expert Rando Masashi. One day, his life went topsy-turvy after a bus accident, which causes him to become burnt beyond recognition. When he wakes up from this comatose state one year later, he found out that he was already assumed dead, his parents had moved away, and most unfortunately, his face was reconstructed by a mad doctor, Manabe Jun, to have the face of his crush, Kurimi Rina.

He leaves in search for his old photo so that his original face can be reconstructed, but along the way bumps into Rina by accident. Surprisingly, when Masashi was discovered by Rina, she mistakes him as her long lost twin sister, Yuna, and brings him home. In order not to become suspicious, he lies about having amnesia. He does get a picture of himself eventually but after seeing how much pain Rina went through while her sister was gone, Masashi decides to impersonate Yuna for the time being until he can find the real Yuna and bring her back to the Kurimi family.

Well, even though the plot is quite interesting, it turns quite bland since it is the same story style for every of the first few chapters: Something happens which threatens his secret, or Rina gets in trouble, a bit of trouble here and there, but ultimately Rando would somehow find a solution to the problem. Not to mention the number of jokes relating towards Rando’s sexual reproductive organ…

Even so, every chapter is packed with laughter and the story is always unpredictable, making it a fun read. Despite the immaturity of the beginning chapters, the later chapters have a nice story progression that would satisfy those who bore through the story’s initial boring story style…

Also, even though it is labeled under a ‘Shounen’ genre, the protagonist journey through understanding females and his selfless love for his crush would most probably how this story appeals the female audiences. Well, that is AFTER you overlook the fact that this story is packed with loads of ecchi-ness (even though there is no exposure of privates), which will turn off A LOT of viewers after a few chapters.

The ending of the story is also unsatisfying, but it doesn’t have a sour taste to it in spite of it being a rushed ending.

Rating: 7/10 <<<<<<< DDD

In the nutshell: An enjoyable comedy for those who love gender-bending manga, but be warned of this manga’s extensive use of Ecchi and sexual jokes. Not recommended for those who hate ‘beat-around-the-bush’ stories, as that will spoil the mood.

Went out with Eng Hoong, Ying Ying and Juit Lin today~!

Yeah... met up in Jurong Point for lunch...

And then took a train to Somerset... all 'cause Juit Lin wanted to buy socks at the newly-opened UNIQLO...

Like you cannot buy socks anywhere else...

Most of the time was spent looking at shop names and critising them~! Since I wasn't interested in shopping at all...

Yup... this is my queer way of entertainment...

Did I mention that I have NEVER been to Somerset before~?

Walked around other malls in the surrounding area (I don't know the names of any of them)...

One of them had and extremely disturbing Sesame Street show...

The hostess counting was bad: 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 10...; Maths failed~!

Either the hostess was acting cute, or the sponsors hired an idiot...

Most probably the former... but I wouldn't say the latter wasn't possible

Went to Plaza Singapura next.

Once again, first time there...

Like what Eng Hoong said: There's a first time for ALMOST everything...

Why the 'almost'~?

You want to try smoking or illegal drugs for a first time?

Okay` Got your point...

Saw an Arcade there. Which I never knew existed...

Intended to try playing, but the noise was too loud~

So... We didn't.

Noticed a Cosplay shop too~! Which I once again never knew existed...

I am really closet freak, aren't I?

Almost drove Juit Lin crazy with our utmost ignorance with basic things which I didn't think made sense...

Like the common phrase 'Diao Yu' (Fishing in Chinese) could be referring to getting a Boyfriend/Girlfriend...

I actually thought that she wanted to go fishing~!

Surprisingly, Eng Hoong commented that I can never lose to Yan Qing...

In simplier terms, she could be referred to as the 'Ultimate Boss'...
(Yan Qing - No offence there)

Visited a few shops here and there... More critising... Yada yada...

Stopped by Comics Connection...

Realised Naruto Vol.48 was out~!

Looked around at the merchandise and mangas.

Eng Hoong was looking (intensively) at Vampire Knight merchandises...

Big fan?

Obvious...

Saw some titles that I recognise too~!

In the end, they bought Yan Qing's Birthday present there...

I got to start working on mine soon~!

Juit Lin did practically all of the shopping~!

And the rest just stood around doing NOTHING.

Random conversation here and there...

Got bored. So in the end travelled back to Jurong Point...

I also noticed Juit Lin kept talking about Chemistry...

She said she was complaining about how hard Organic Chem. was...

Then stop complaining then...

Can we leave this 'til we get out 'O' Level results back?

At Jurong Point, Ying Ying and Eng Hoong ate KFC.

Asked them why they got hungry so fast after lunch...

Reply: That was breakfast; THIS is lunch

...

Played $20 worth of games in the Arcade...

Actually, Eng Hoong and I shared the cost; I only used $10...

Juit Lin said that it was a waste of money...

Which I can't say I won't admit...

And the whole hour we were playing a shooting game~!

Juit Lin got the job of topping up the coins so that we can continue playing... Boring job, isn't it?

Managed to reach Level 3, but ran out of lives and money... Didn't finish the game...

But it was fun~!

Did I mention that I have NEVER been to an Arcade before in my entire 16 years of existence?

Eng Hoong was even terrified, saying something about teaching me the wrong thing...

To make up for Ying Ying's and Juit Lin's utter boredom (they didn't play), we let them chose where to go for the rest of the time...

Result; Juit Lin's Journey For A New Phone (<- Looks like a book title...) Which ironically only lasted 15 minutes...

Saw my 4th uncle, aunt and cousins there~! They were picking up dog supplies...

Utterly shocked! They stay all the way in Woodlands!!!

Worse, my aunt could not recognise me...

Didn't we just saw each other 3 weeks ago?

Ended up in the Library for the rest of the time...

More random conversations again~

Picked up that Naruto Vol. 48 on the way home.

At home, Dad asked me what I did... Replied shopping and Arcade...

Dad's comment: Arcade is a waste of money...

Deja vu anyone?

Well, overall it was fun~

Except...

Except?

I had to wear a stupid bloody skirt 'cause all my pants still haven't dry after washing...

Goddamn rain...

Wah~! That was some journey, eh?

You said it…

Sorry for not updating earlier. I was busy with helping out around my grandmother’s house.

Apparently, my cousin’s maid went home for a month, so now I have been ‘allocated’ the duty of taking care of some of the housework at my grandmother’s house…

The rest of the time was used to type an “offline”, due to my uneven schedule.

It IS a long post, after all…

Everyone, ganbatte~!

YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO BE HELPING OUT TOO!
YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO BE HELPING OUT TOO!

Well then, here’s my experience of my Japan Trippppppppppp~!

(Background sound of a certain somebody being chased around by two others in a virtual space, only to be caught and dragged back for extra work…)
______________________________________________

06-12-2009 Sunday

Ok… that plane ride was exhausting…

Yeah, since I could not sleep a wink AT ALL~!

Reach Japan in the morning after a night flight…

Ah~ I want to sleep… but can’t.

We first went to our hotel to deposit our luggages, before I was (reluctantly) dragged around the city streets…

Tokyo’s streets are no different from Singapore’s, just that the clothes style of the people were rather… unique…

Visited one of the places famous for its long stretch of Gingko trees~!

We went there in autumn, so most of the leaves were on the ground…

Walked a little further, and managed to catch a glimpse of a ‘Change-of-season’ Festival.

Then had beef rice for lunch…

We ordered through a vending machine~! So cute*

On our way to a park, we manage to see a store vendor making traditional rice cakes.

Too bad we didn’t eat any…

Chanced upon a cosplay café too… Some of the costumes were displayed outside…

And no; I did not go in…

On our way to a park to see the maple trees, we saw some people in cosplays (I think?).

My parents just HAD to take a picture with one of them…

... which by the way (sorry, no offence) looks absolutely NOTHING like cosplay...

Finally reached the park…

Lookie at the maple leaves~!

Saw some people in their seasonal kimonos too…

Checked into the hotel before going to dinner…

Ramen~!

Another vending machine… What’s with people and vending machines?

Even saw one selling cigarettes earlier~!

After dinner, went up to the 42nd story of a building nearby for the view of Tokyo city…

Looks nice, but at that point of time, my phobia of heights acted up…

Go Figure…
______________________________________________

07-12-2009 Monday

After breakfast, took the express train to Hakone, a town in Tokyo.

Later took the tram up the mountains…

The view is AWESOME~!

Had lunch, looked around somemore, and went to look at the plants in their botanic gardens.

Managed to see some Sakura flowers.

Or rather, the October Sakura, which is the only species of sakuras in bloom currently.

Travelled to the next hotel in a cable car…

... which once again triggered my phobia of heights...
(Just so you know, I only knew of these photos after the whole experience; My dad took these photos when I was in my trance-state…)

We were staying in an onsen hotel… and they are very traditional…

Both before and after dinner, my mum and I went to the onsen (hot springs).

No comments here…

Except that it was EXTREMELY EMBARASSING to bare it all IN FRONT OF ALL THE FEMALES~!

My mum just had to make the stupid comment “There’s nothing to hide; we’re all females.”

Yeah, EXCEPT FOR THE FACT THAT I’M NOT USED TO EXPOSING MY BODY TO OTHERS SINCE 5 YEARS OLD!!!

I seriously wonder how she can get accustomed to this…

Well~ it’s not as bad as dad…

Why?

He asked why didn’t we take any pictures there…

?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

And he even asked my brother to take his picture wh-

THAT HENTAI SIDE OF HIM SHOULD JUST GO SMASH HS HEAD IN A WALL!!!
______________________________________________

08-12-2009 Tuesday

Wah~! The meals were really elaborate and extremely delicious~!

By the way, my mum booked a family onsen for that morning…

AND for obvious reasons we were allowed to wear our swimming gear…

Wonder why they didn’t allow us to do so in the regular onsen? I’m still highly sensitive about it…

Dunno…

After breakfast, we continued our ascend in Hakone…

... which just so happen to be in a…

... god-damn cable car…

WHAT IS IT WITH ALL THESE ACTIVITIES?!

Once again, I refrained from looking down by looking up… but turned momentarily for…

... Ne ne~! Mite, mite... Mount Fuji~!

But right after that, I accidentally looked down…

Great… Phobia triggered AGAIN…

After getting off, we visited the sulfur mines…

Where all that sulfur dioxide and hydrogen sulfide smelled like rotten eggs and irritated my eyes…

Took another stupid cable car ride to the pier (not the stop where we started from)…

Seriously, one of these days I need to make an important mental note for my mum to REMEMBER to stop arranging all these activities which have HEIGHTS~

Had packed lunch before taking a boat ride…

Not very particular about boat rides, so forgotten to take pictures…

Gome

Visited a shrine when we got off the boat…

Just for the heck of it, my bro prayed for a good entry to the school he chooses (which I have until now no idea what it is) and I prayed for good ‘O’ level results for all of this year’s Fuhua Sec 4s…

On the way, my bro bought a miniature toy katana for 400 yen…

After that, we took a bus to our next hotel.

Another onsen hotel… Nice…
______________________________________________

09-12-2009 Wednesday

Great… Dad’s sick…

Limits what we could do for the day…

After breakfast, we visited the Venetian glass Museum.

I bet Nusrat would love to go there~!

There were many types of Venetian glass on display (I cannot upload all of the photos here due to the lack of disc space) but this was one of them that I liked in particular~!

My bro and I also made our own customized glass pieces: My bro made a keychain and I made a pendant.

After lunch in the Italian restaurant there, we explored a bit more before taking the train back to Tokyo and letting my dad rest…

______________________________________________

10-12-2009 Thursday

Dad was feeling better, so we went out to look around Tokyo.

No. We are not in New York… It is just an imitation...

Obvious since Rainbow Bridge is in the Background. (You’ll know why it is called that way later…)

Visited a car showroom…

Seriously, can my dad just STOP thinking about getting a new car?

Didn’t really do much there… C’mon~! It’s a CAR SHOWROOM!!!

My Bro played Go-kart…

I took some driving simulation test…

Surprisingly, I got a ‘B’~!

Also noticed a table soccer corner (I think that was its name…) Played with my bro…

Result: He won the first 3 games, but I won the next 10…

He got seriously pissed, so played with my mum…

He won by 1 point…

Visited Fuji TV station after explore the nearby shopping centres after lunch.

Considerably interesting…

Had pizza for dinner…

See~? This is why this is called Rainbow Bridge…

I initially thought that it was some weird kiddie place...

______________________________________________

11-12-2009 Friday

Dad’s illness got worse…

And it was raining…

Stay inside the whole morning taking care of him

But was eventually dragged out to Ginza for shopping by my mother as she was bored…

BRRR~! So cold~!

Uhhh…
______________________________________________

12-12-2009 Saturday

Dad was feeling better; but I got a little sick….

Not used to eating Japanese food everyday for every meal, I guess…

We went to look at Tokyo’s famous fish market…

I am not particular about going out, but the extremely large crowd was making me feel even more uncomfortable…

... which obviously made me very grumpy, much to my parents’ dissatisfaction…

I refused to take any medication, but was eventually forced to eat by my parents’ equally persistent behavior…

Result: Allergy Reaction; Swollen face.

What is worse than falling ill and not taking medication would definitely be getting an allergic reaction because you TOOK medication.

I really have to remind my mum to bring along those medication that I am NOT allergic to…

So, I couldn’t go look around in Asakusa… *sobs…

My dad brought me back to the hotel to rest for the rest of the afternoon.

Rest… for the rest of the afternoon…

This is not time for puns…

After the allergy subsided (though my face was still a bit swollen), we went out for dinner and went to the Tokyo tower…

And no. We are not in Paris…
______________________________________________

13-12-2009 Sunday

Last day in Japan, so no matter what, my mum wanted to drag me around Ameyoko for shopping…

Even though I was not feeling very well…

Dragged from one store to another…

Resolution: Accept whatever she wants to buy before she goes overboard.

Since I was not having much of an appetite, my mum got Takoyaki (Fried Octopus balls)

For someone like me who have no appetite, I managed to finish off the entire plate~!

Bought a few more things, before getting on the train to the airport…

______________________________________________

Well, I guess that’s that…

Yup~!

Sorry for the lack of photos… Blogspot is unable to support too many photos…

Oh and by the way, my mum is still in Japan on business trip, and she claim that she was going to buy back a skirt for me...

... which I ABSOLUTELY DETEST!

Great...

Nipaaaaaaaaaaaaah~ I'm bored...

Why are you bored?

*yawn These few days have been learning basic Japanese for the upcoming trip to Tokyo...

So...?

It's starts to get boring when you sit in front of a computer the whole day listening to some random equally bored guy speaking to himself who just happed to be taped...

...

Right...

So when are we leaving for Tokyo again?

This saturday, I guess...

Which reminds me of the offer of going out with Eng Hoong and friends on the SAME DAY...

Had to turn it down, huh...

I was ACTUALLY looking forward to going to an arcade... Never been to one before...

What can you expect? We are labelled"anti-social" and never really hung out with anyone before...

With exception of this year that is~!

... yeah...

...
...
...

So we will be taking another temporary break after this post?

Probably...

...
...
...

Now that you mention it, what was Primary School like again~?

...
...

I don't know...

Me too...

If we really must start searching...

... we will probably have to spend another whole day raking up information. No assurance that we will get anything though...

Ah~! Never mind...
