Oh great…
Huh? What is it?
My frequency of posting is approximately proportional to the people who tag on my tagboard…
Actually, it would be [(Posting) + X] ∝ (People tagging), where X ∈+ve rational number.
Great, now you’re intergrating Math in here…
But since we are talking about the number of people, X should be a positive integer~
Okay, you are NOW freaking me out with your maths…
But then again, I should put in the limitation that X is greater than 8~
OI!
Or was it 13~?
You are officially crazy… Go sit in a corner and recover…

To Aru Kagaku no Railgun (Anime; 24 episodes)
Genres: Action, Comedy, Sci-fic, Seinen, Supernatural
To Aru Kagaku no Railgun, or A Certain Scientific Railgun, is a side story is based on Kamachi's original story (To Aru Majutsu no Index) set in Academy City. This story however takes the point of view Misaka Mikoto, one of the Level 5 psychics in Academy City, while the original main character, Kamijou Touma, takes a side character role.
As stated in the title, Misaka is known as the ‘Railgun’ for her ability to accelerate a conductive projectile by charging it with a large current and passing it through her own electromagentic field. Despite her rather fierce, unfriendly and ‘tsundere’ character in the original story, it is shown that she is actually quite caring.
Not that it changes when it comes to her annoying roommate/partner/one-sided love teleportation master Shirai Kuroko.
New characters are also introduced into the story, like Uiharu Kazari and Saten Ruiko.
But don’t be mistaken by this seeming shoujo-type anime, this is NOWHERE near shoujo… The action is somewhat on par with (if not better than) many of the famous MALE action series.
Now who the one who said an all-female cast action anime cannot be good?
Since the art style of this anime is as excellent as the original, you can expect action scenes to be both fluid and beautiful. In fact, the details of their fight scenes are so good that your jaw will drop.
And let’s not forget the entire well though-out sci-fic plot that makes people like me scream in excitement… (Yes, I love Sci-fic)
*On the side-lines with no relation to the story, the opening themes for this anime [Artist: fripSide] are also awesome!!!*
Rating: 9/10 <<<<<<<<< D
In the nutshell: An excellent anime that combined science-fiction and action together perfectly. Fluidity in both storyline and action scenes are a dream come true for many. Not your usual girls-who-willingly-act-as-damsels-in-distress action anime, because it is the girls that take charge here. One warning though: a perverted Kuroko with an “Onee-sama” obsession might not be something suitable for young kids...

He leaves in search for his old photo so that his original face can be reconstructed, but along the way bumps into Rina by accident. Surprisingly, when Masashi was discovered by Rina, she mistakes him as her long lost twin sister, Yuna, and brings him home. In order not to become suspicious, he lies about having amnesia. He does get a picture of himself eventually but after seeing how much pain Rina went through while her sister was gone, Masashi decides to impersonate Yuna for the time being until he can find the real Yuna and bring her back to the Kurimi family. Labels: Anime and Manga Corner, Chapter 4
Each story arc repeats the time period of June 1983, but with different scenarios and from different characters’ perspectives. As the series progresses, backgrounds of the main characters are revealed and you will find yourself thinking that you have solved the mystery behind the murders, only to be marked down when an unexpected event happens and you find yourself back at square one. To add on to the excitement, each story arc is thrilling to the bone, which will make you addicted to the story and wanting to find out more. In the nutshell: A nice anime that I highly recommend for mystery lovers, but may not be very well-liked by those who are unable to comprehend the storyline, and re-watching of the scenes maybe required for some people to understand. Censorship is also effectively used, so murder scenes are not too gruesome, thus an enjoyable thriller without going over the edge. Labels: Anime and Manga Corner, Chapter 3

WTH~?!
What is the matter that is causing such uproar from a person like you?
It has been TWO MONTHS since we last posted a review~!!!
Oh great…
So pardon me for being so inactive~
The only reason I realized this is because TODAY was half-school day (Saturday was Fun-O-Rama!)
SO SORRY~!
By the way, the next review is this Sunday (if I have the time to post) since, well, next month is after this Thursday…

To Aru Majutsu no Index (Anime; 24 episodes)
Genres: Action, Comedy, Fantasy, Magic, Sci-fic, Supernatural, Shounen, Seinen
To Aru Majutsu no Index, or A Certain Magical Index, is situated in a fictional town called Academy City. As its name states it, 80% of its 230,000 citizens are students, learning to create or enhance their psychic abilities. Psychics are differentiated into different levels from 0 to 5, with 0 being seemingly powerless.
This story takes the point of view from Kamijou Touma, a seemingly brainless and equally unlucky level 0. Just when he thought his life as bad enough, a young nun dropped out of the sky (literally) and landed into his life.
The young nun, called Index, was a living library (or index) upholding 103 grimores in her mind, which (obviously) makes her a constant target to enemies. Thus, this dragged him (unwillingly) into the previously unknown world of magic and an even crazier life than before.
Well, I must say, this anime was simply an exhilarating one. The anime has such a well thought-out plot, compared to some stories where there are many obvious loopholes in the story. This new fantasy world is drawn in so much detail that I feel as though it is real.
And since the art style of this anime is just simply excellent, you can expect action scenes to be both fluid and beautiful.
And of course, let’s not forget the all wonderful Seinen-genre jokes!
Although it is not pointed out in the genres, this anime is somewhat similar to a Harem one… Reason being is that practically most of the characters that Touma interacts with are GIRLS, which more or less admire/ are attracted to/ feel embarrassed around/ love Touma. Sadly, this is a SHOUNEN anime, so those who expect shoujo-love romances will be greatly disappointed.
Despite his great resemblance to many other Harem-genre heroes that were utterly clueless to their counter-part(s) feelings.
*On the side-lines with no relation to the story, the opening themes for this anime [Artist: Kawada Mami] are awesome!!!*
Rating: 9/10 <<<<<<<<< D
In the nutshell: An excellent anime that relieves the boredom that annoys you to no end. Fluidity in both storyline and action scenes are a dream come true for many. Comedy scenes are a little repetitive, despite being one of the main attractions for this anime. An ideal story for Shounen-action plot lovers for all, but those seeking for romance should say well-clear.

Ne ne, Yuki-san?
Eh? Nani, Mu-tan?
Are you tried?
If you mean that by my entire body aching from dancing and orientation games, not to mentioned red with sunburn, yet my brain is still rusty and requires some time before thinking make my head retarded, then yes, I’m tired...
Orientation also ends late, so we barely had the time to think of a new chapter.
Hmm…Guess so…
Soyuwakete… What are going to do?
Why not we start on a discussion of anime terms? Since we can’t decide on another Manga to introduce…
Good idea~! Then what should we start with? A genre? Or a personality?
Eto ne… Why not we start with a personality?
Okay~! So what do you want to start with?
Dunno…
…
What about your personality type ‘Kuudere’?
Erm… that’s too small… Let’s start with something more general that most people would know about…
Like ‘Tsundere’…?
Sure...
OK~!
______________________________________________
As you may or may not know, I am still no very sure about the different anime terms, and am still very ignorant about them. While some of the information comes from my understanding, most of the info here are what I have read and compiled from many different information websites. If there are any mistakes, please feel free to point them out on my tagboard. Thank you.
______________________________________________ Meaning of Term:
‘Tsundere’ describes a character (usually female) who runs 'hot and cold', constantly changing between being a strict, confrontational and uncaring person (tsuntsun: "aloof" or "cranky" in Japanese) and an affectionate and soft-hearted person (deredere: "lovestruck" in Japanese).
Personality:
There are two main types of ‘Tsundere’, depending on their personality:
Type “Tsun”: These ‘Tsundere’s are “tsuntsun” set as their default “exterior”, making them seem mean. This is the usually personality given to Tomboys or ‘bad’ boys in Anime/Manga. It takes something very special to trigger their hidden “deredere” side. The intensity of their crankiness can range from “Always angry at practically almost anything that I don’t agree to” to “This is stupid, I ain’t doing it”. When they are angered or embarrassed, they usually become vulgar (by shouting insults to the other person) or sometimes violent (by hitting the person with their hands, legs or with a “trademark” weapon of choice). However, when they help out someone that they are not close to, they would probably say something like "Don't get me wrong, I'm not doing this for you" and usually have their entire face covered with ferocious blushing, making them appear vulnerable in contrast to their usual strong-willed exterior.
Type “Dere”: These ‘Tsundere’s have “deredere” as their default “exterior”. This is the usually personality for soft spoken people that seem nice but have a mysterious hidden background in Anime/Manga. They are kind and soft-hearted, but just happen to have a secret violent side too. Usually, their temper is almost always triggered by someone else, usually by their love interest or by an idiot which serves as a comedic relief. As they have absolutely no clue on how to handle feelings of love and attraction, they are therefore sweet to everyone except the person they are interested in. Unwanted suitors might also trigger their violent side. Very often, the male love interest (referring to female “deredere”s) will be very frustrated as everybody else keeps telling him how sweet the ‘Tsundere’ is and wonders how it could possibly be the same girl.
Types of Pairings (need not be romantic ones):
In Mangas and Animes, ‘Tsundere’s are usually paired up with the patient type of people, since a normal person would be pissed off by the former’s cold attitude.
A more common pairing would be with the seemingly-stupid and stubborn type, as sparks (more from anger than romance) are more likely to fly, contributing greatly to the ‘Comedy’ sector.
On the other hand, there is also the masochist type, but they are extremely rare and used only for comedy relief.
What makes them attractive:
A Tsundere's attractiveness can come from either side: On one hand, she is an independent, strong-willed person, determined to do everything well. On the other, she has major “turn-on” points such as awkwardness with relationships (particularly, romance) or have tomboyish tendencies (refer to female ‘Tsundere’s), which she perceives as "weakness". Furthermore, they rarely just sit back, do nothing and act the ‘damsel in distress’ as that will make them lose their appeal. For Type “Tsun”, it's assumed that the person acts fierce to hide their good intentions or as a wall for preventing their weakness to be shown when dealing with romantic relationships. For Type “Dere”, her hidden “tsuntsun” side shows that they are not just some nice guy.
Subcategories:
‘Kuudere’ – Rather than having a violent side, ‘Kuudere’s have a stoic, cold personality with a hidden “deredere” side. The range of intensity for their “Kuu” side can be from an emotionless robotic-like isolator to just a quiet, soft spoken person.
‘Yandere’ (mostly females) – Under normal circumstances, a ‘Yandere’ would only show his/her “deredere” side. However, mess with their love life (e.g. break up, discovery of an affair, insulting their love interest heavily) and they will go on a rampage, where some can go as far as murder (?). More or less a loose nut-case when a love relationship goes wrong.

Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru (Anime; 12 episodes)
Genres: Comedy, Gender-Bending, Romance, School life, Slice of Life
Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru, or literally The Maidens are falling in love with me, is a story about Kaguragi Mizuho, a boy who is forced to enter Seiou All-Girls School to fulfill his grandfather’s will. With the help of his childhood friend, Mikado Mariya, he cross-dresses and enters under his mother’s family name, as Miyanokouji Mizuho.
Through his experience, he meets many students that he comes to like, for example kouhais Kana and Yukari (the other dormitory members), the elegant Shion (his classmate), the ghost Ichiko (haunting ghost from his room) and even the bossy Takako (Student Council President). Surprisingly, this ‘girly’ boy exhibits a rather charming personality that what most shoujo-mangas refer to as ‘The prince on a white horse’ (or in this case “princess”), to the point that some of them fall in love with him.
Well, of course later they discover that he is a guy (Or else it becomes shoujo-ai), but that is beside the point…
One thing about this anime that puzzles me is how unbelievably convincing the main protagonist looks like a girl! Even if a guy does dress up like a girl, unlike his body is totally filled with female hormones, it is practically impossible for a guy to have a figure of a girl’s.
IT’S A TRAP!!! I mean look! He looks so much like a girl to the point that the anime producers forgot! Even though they make sure that every episode mentions that he is a GUY!
Well, it does seem as one of those shoujo-based anime series. But this is actually the revised form (it is extremely revised so that it even can be public-viewed) of the otherwise Hentai game, which unfortunately is scary beyond belief. I was already scared half to death just READING the WORD description from a third-party website.
This is quite obvious from the title, which suggests Harem and ALMOST-yuri themes…
(So for everyone’s safety, PLEASE DO NOT GO TO ITS H-GAME OFFICIAL WEBSITE!)
Rating: 7/10 <<<<<<< DDD
In the nutshell: A short gender-bending anime that relieves that initial boredom. Would have been much more enjoyable if the story wasn’t so make-believe, and making practically EVERYONE in the school a potential lesbian. An ideal love story for Shoujo manga lovers, but will earn much critism from serious Gender-Bending lovers.

Okay fine…
So today’s manga introduction will be…
Shoujo manga ‘Mekakushi no Kuni’~
Never imagine the day I will introduce a Shoujo manga, since I usually don’t read them…
______________________________________________
Mekakushi no Kuni (Manga; 9 volumes)
Genres: Drama, Romance, School Life, Shoujo, Supernatural
Mekakushi no Kuni, or literally Land of the Blindfolded, is the story of three clairvoyant high school students: Otsuka Kanade, Naitou Arou, and Masahiro Naiki; and their interactions with other normal students.
Otsuka Kanade is a high school girl who sometimes sees the future of the person or object she touches. Although she is uncomfortable being touched, she refuses to live her life in fear and uses her powers to help prevent uneventful accidents from happening on those she sees that would be in trouble. One day, she meets Naitou Arou, a new transfer student who can see the past but does not feel he can do anything to help with his knowledge. They also meets Masahiro Namiki, another student who can also see the future but has more control over his power than Kanade and uses it for selfish reasons.
Kanade, Arou, and Namiki live in a world where society might not accept them if their secret is ever known other than by their friends. On several occasions, people learn about their secret, with varying reponses. From isolating him from the rest of the people, to accepting their talent, these moments will never fail to make your heart feel tender.
One thing I like about this manga is how the author makes use of one of the problems that is faced in some societies: Discrimination. Whether it is by race or by some other differences, most minority groups tend to be outcasts from society.
Another issue would be the problem faced by disabled children in some households, usually when another sibling with no disabilities is present. Although Namiki does not possess a disability, his power of clairvoyance makes him abnormal, causing his parents to be afraid of him, and always only caring for his normal younger brother. Of course, they don’t hate him; they are just unable to understand him, like how some parents feel towards their children with disabilities.
Well, even after saying so much, there is still one thing that I must absolutely point out… Everything that Kanade sees is always (with one or two exceptions) some bad accident. No matter what, it’s always bad somehow. Sorry to be crude, but it’s like as though Kanade is a ‘Danger Detector’…
Rating: 7/10 <<<<<<< DDD
In the nutshell: A nice considerably short story that tingles at those heart-warming scene, but be warned that this manga story line is practically predictable (it’s labelled drama). And please don’t expect much romance scenes; it’s progression is SO slow that you will feel like pulling out your hair in frustration

Hello there…
Welcome to the 8th chapter…
…
…
You must be wondering why we’re so listless…
This is because tomorrow is the release of the ‘O’ level results…
And for the past few nights, I’ve been having nightmares…
TERRIBLE NIGHTMARES~
And even wanted to take a break momentarily due to the lack of sleep…
But then, I couldn’t rest my mind if I don’t type one chapter…
So here…
…
So therefore... Introducing ‘Seitokai no Ichizon’…!
Nyaa~ I wanna go and sleep…
______________________________________________
Seitokai no Ichizon (Anime; 12 episodes)
Genres: Comedy, Ecchi, Harem, Parody, School Life, Seinen, Slapstick
Seitokai no Ichizon is a slapstick comedy series situated at Hekiyou Academy’s Student Council. In Hekiyou Academy, the members of the Student Council are selected by what amounts to a popularity contest. Therefore, the Council mostly consists of attractive girls. However, there is another rule in place, where it states that the highest scorer of the school is allowed to enter the Student Council by using the blue-chip seat. Unfortunately, nobody who ever expect the valedictorian, Ken Sugisaki, to be a crazy ‘otaku’ of bishoujo games (H-games to be exact) who is in a constant delusion to make the four girls of the Student Council into his harem.
The first recognizable part of Seitokai no Ichizon is its extensive use of anime references. Ranging from Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu and K-ON! to Death Note and Jigoku Shoujo, listing ALL the references would be getting beyond impossible. It even competes with Lucky Star, another anime also famous for its use of anime references (Which makes Seitokai no Ichizon even more ridiculous as they made an anime reference towards Lucky Star). Non-otakus tend to get lost half-way through the story due to these references (even I tend to get lost, so no matter), but it is a good laugh to serious anime lovers.
The second thing about this anime is that it gathers most of the different types of personalities that usually show up in a Harem anime, but with an extra twist to it:
1. Sakurano Kurimu: President of the Student Council – Pettanko Main Protagonist, but also an adult-child who is an airhead compared to most OTHER Student Council Presidents (with a maturity level of a five-year old to match).
2. Akaba Chizuru: Secretary of the Student Council – Model-like Kuudere, who is unfortunately a sadist, a lolicon and a Yuri Fangirl, although she is able to hold up a more cutsy side, which drives around the note of ‘MOE’.
(sorry... just had to add this picture)
3. Shiina Minatsu: Vice-President of the Student Council – Twin ponytailed Tsundere, who loves shounen-action stories (practically most of her references comes from this area) and has ABSOLUTELY no ‘deredere’.
4. Shiina Mafuyu: Treasurer of the Student Council – Shy soft-spoken bishoujo, although she is a geek with a serious game addiction and a BIG Yaoi Fangirl, much to Ken’s displeasure (pairs Ken with a male in her BL delusions).
And let’s not forget the wonderful fan service (mostly by Chizuru) scenes that comes mostly from Sugisaki Ken’s bishoujo game DELUSIONS. Even when it IS a swimsuit (which surprisingly is IN the Student Council Room), they covered his eyes with a blindfold.
Oh, before I forget, I absolutely must point out something… The male uniform is a Rummage Sale Reject!
Nevertheless, it brings laughter to my stressed face no matter how many times I watch it. Even my other cousins, who aren’t the least interested in anime, burst into laughter after 10 seconds into the show.
Rating: 8/10 <<<<<<<< DD
In the nutshell: An excellent slapstick comedy for everyone, though it would be funnier if you have knowledge on other animes due to the many anime reference here. And although subtle, anyone who HATES Ecchi scenes (and yes, it can get really REALLY BAD, even if it only about 20 seconds) should steer clear.

Hey Yuki-san?
What is it, Mu-tan?
I was wondering why there are two chapters on the same week~
Oh. Friday was a special chapter for the New Year, so it doesn’t really count.
Then what about Christmas? Why didn’t we have one then~?
Oh… I forgot about that…
You forgot…
…
Ooookay then~ Let’s just forget about that~ So what are we doing this time?
Murder story…
And we’re back to THAT again?!
That was 4 chapters ago… and besides, we have to introduce a manga this time, right?
But-
And we still haven’t received any request yet…
…
Unless you have something else…
Okay okay… Fine~ So what manga is it?
Introducing ‘Bloody Monday’…!
But seriously. Why aren't there any request~?

Bloody Monday (Manga; 11 volumes)
Genres: Mature (>14), Murder, Mystery, Sci-fic, Shounen
Bloody Monday is a mystery story situated in modern Japan. A Russian spy is found murdered, with the only clue to the reasons for his death being a memory chip. Things become further complicated when Takagi Fujimura's father, a high ranking official within Third-I PSST (based on the Public Security Intelligence Agency), is falsely accused of murdering his superior when he obtains further information about a viral outbreak in Russia where thousands are killed, known as the Christmas Massacre, and the code name "Bloody Monday". In order to clear his father’s name, the brilliant 16 year old Third-I PSST recruit genius hacker Fujimaru, known as the "Falcon" publicly, decoded the chip left behind by the spy, discovering a video file documenting the Christmas Massacre and learning about “Bloody Monday”.
The terrorist Orihara Maya, who was responsible for the incident in Russia, is now in Tokyo in order to recover the memory stick to stop Third-I from knowing the truth of a terrorist plot in Japan. She goes undercover as a teacher at Fujimaru's High School. From there it becomes difficult for Fujimaru to determine who he can trust as he uses his high-level hacking skills to try and save the country and unravel the mystery of Bloody Monday and the cult behind it.
Please be wary of the ‘Mature’ theme. It is categorized like this for a reason: The murder scenes are very disturbing that can make young kids have nightmares. And considering the detailed art of this manga, I hope I get my point across
And since this is a science-fiction story, you will expect lots (and I mean LOTS) of scientific term that will make your mind explode, despite its seemingly futile attempt to explain Fujimaru’s or the enemies’ course of action. I spent about 1/3 of my time re-reading the entire plot to grasp the situation.
Oh yeah, one more thing to add, since this is a shounen manga, please be prepared for impossibly big-busted ladies in inappropriate clothing, especially the terrorist Orihara Maya, since this is one of the many weird ways shounen manga catch their male audiences…
Nonetheless, it is an excellent thriller that will make mystery-lovers scream for joy, especially the complexity of the plot. Every point of the story is packed with excitement and things are always not as you anticipated.
Rating: 8/10 <<<<<<<< DD
In the nutshell: A highly recommended thriller that intertwines with the science-fiction theme excellently, although the science terms should be explained in more detail for the benefit of the readers. Young children and people who cannot stand gruesome murder scenes should stay clear. The artstyle is also highly commendable, despite its inappropriate use in certain cases…

HAPPY NEW YEAR~!
HAPPY NEW YEAR…!
It’s finally 2010~! Pop the champagne~
Umm… We’re too young to drink…
Oppsie~
Anyway… This will make this the first post of the New Year!
Right~!
So as a treat, we will have a special chapter!
? Special?
Yup...
How?
I will be introducing one of my favorite animes…
Oooo~
And this is one of those animes that are SO interesting, that it made me want to read the manga. I added in a few notes about its manga alternative as well…
Oh~
Well then…
INTRODUCING ‘SOUL EATER’~!
INTRODUCING ‘SOUL EATER’…!
______________________________________________
Soul Eater (Anime; 51 episodes)
Genres: Action, Adventure, Comedy, Fantasy, Shounen, Supernatural
Soul Eater is set in a Shinigami technical school, Shibusen, for meisters and weapon. The story revolves around 3 groups consisting of a weapon meister and a human weapon: Maka Albarn with Soul Eater, Black Star with Tsubaki, Death the Kid with Liz and Patti (although more focus is placed on the first pair). Trying to make their human weapons into a "Death Scythe" for Shinigami, they must collect the souls of 99 evil humans and 1 witch.
Okay, okay. Maybe the first paragraph makes this anime sound like some boring, ancient legend made into a shounen anime… Well, it’s not…
So let’s try this again…
First of all, this anime is packed with comedy scenes that can come out at practically ANYTIME, making anyone forgetting the mood of the previous scene (touching sad scene, action-packed fighting scene etc.) due to its impracticality that will totally drive you crazy with insanity (we will touch on this again later…).
Made me want to watch 10 episodes continuously in a row…
Second, the details of this newly-created world, released slowly at the different times of the story are easy to understand, something that is usually lacked in many other fantasy genre animes… The plot is also interesting even WITHOUT the comedy scenes (which will make it into another one of those boring shounen stories), and is mostly unpredictable.
Finally, let’s not forget the main attraction of the anime: Its Action-packed fighting scenes! Even though Laws of Physics cannot be applied in most action scenes (like they ever make sense anyway…), the fluid movement combined with anime’s nice art style makes each attack seemly performed beautifully.
Especially when each person/witch/creature/death god releases their ‘ULTIMATE ATTACK’, I cannot help but be frozen in awe…
And this is considering that I have watched/read many shounen stories…
Unfortunately, the ‘protagonist(s) finally obtaining a Death Scythe’ plan was not fulfilled as the anime ended prematurely, making it my only disappointment…
[*Note: The manga does show one of them obtaining a Death Scythe, since they have different story progression after chpt 37.]
Instead, we have them fight a Kishin (the BIG BOSS of an advanced evil human soul)!
And if you are wondering why the rest are not fighting, there are three reasons:
1) They are not powerful enough.
2) They have been heavily injured.
3) They are insane with the kishin’s insanity wavelengths~
That would already explain the purpose of their fighting…
Rating: 9/10 <<<<<<<<< D
In the nutshell: A quirky anime for all ages, especially those who had a bad day and is looking for a good laugh, in spite of its randomness. Action scenes are also amazing, although it’s usually interrupted by their comedy scenes. Its manga alternative has a bigger plot twist, and is recommended for those unsatisfied with the anime’s rushed ending. However, be warned that the manga is classified under ‘ecchi’ (I find the manga unsuitable for young children), so be VERY prepared for frontal nudity if you want to read it.

Whee~
Why are you so happy?
‘It’s the season to be jolly~ Tra lalalala lalalala~’
Oh right… Christmas season…
Yup~
So what anime are we going to introduce this time?
Since it’s Christmas, let’s go back to its roots~
To its roots?
England, desu. ENGLAND~!
Okay, okay. Wakata… (Mu-tan must be high on sugar-rush again...)
Soyuwakete… Introducing ‘Kuroshitsuji’~
H-Hey! Ch-chotomate! Wait for me!
______________________________________________
Kuroshitsuji (Anime; 24 episodes)
Genres: Comedy, Fantasy, Mystery, Shounen, Supernatural
Kuroshitsuji, or literally Black Butler, is a fantasy story situated in Victorian era London, England. In a manor house on the outskirts of the city, loyal butler Sebastian Michaelis serves Ciel Phantomhive, the twelve-year-old head of an English noble family and a toy and candy empire. Sebastian carries out any task required by his master, no matter how demanding it might seem. Though it seems to be like a normal noble family household, the Phantomhives have a history to serve directly under the Queen, while secretly solving the problems plaguing England with ease and perfection. And just when you think that this is enough, think again: Sebastian is a demon and has a Faustian contract with his master.
Compared to other animes where the surroundings are usually blurred out or lack details, Kuroshitsuji is one of the few animes that places emphasis on every single one of those minuet details. And considering that this story takes place in the Victorian era, anyone would be awed by the detailed architecture, even though it is “just an anime”.
One of my favorite catch-phrases from this series would probably be Sebastian’s "Because I am one hell of a butler" (わたしはあくまで執事ですから, Aku made shitsuji desu kara), where it plays on the word "demon" (あくま, akuma) and the phrase "to the end" (あくまで, aku made). It can also translate to "I am a demon and a butler".
Although it has a fantasy as one of its genres, it does not place much emphasis in that field, which will probably upset a lot of fantasy-lovers. It, however, makes it up with its intriguing mystery plotline, where the truth is usually something totally unexpected.
And let’s not forget the numerous comedy scenes that are sure to make your stomach hurt from sheer laughter…
And once again, for the love of god, please do not think of this as ‘shotacon’ as the fansites say… It is very disturbing for some otakus (like me)…
Rating: 9/10 <<<<<<<<< D
In the nutshell: Backgrounds filled with beautiful historical architecture from the Victorian era: A dream come through and a must-see for all art-loving otakus. Also highly recommended for people who love stories situated back in the past, but a dangerous pick for anyone who cannot stand a second without modern technology. Fantasy lovers may want to watch an alternative.

Someone ACTUALLY read the Anime and Manga Corner~!!!
EH?! That’s amazing! It was Eng Hoong, right?
Yup! Thank you SO MUCH for reading!
Kind of gives you encouragement, doesn’t it… Since it felt like I'm typing(talking) to a wall...
Yeah~!
Must be because of the 3rd chapter recommendation to the ‘Higurashi’ ser-
Actually, it was the 2nd chapter recommendation…
Oh…
...
What genre was it again?
‘Gender-Bending’~
Okay, to celebrate (and to grant Eng Hoong’s request), we will introduce another Gender-Bending manga…
But then again, there aren’t many GOOD Gender-Bending manga out there…
Yeah, you’re right…
We will have to start resourcing for more soon~!
But that also means that the next chapter can't be something on Gender-Bending too...
______________________________________________
Pretty Face (Manga; 6 volumes)
Genre: Comedy, Ecchi(>15), Gender-Bending, Romance, School Life, Shounen, Slice of Life
Pretty Face is romance comedy that involves high school karate expert Rando Masashi. One day, his life went topsy-turvy after a bus accident, which causes him to become burnt beyond recognition. When he wakes up from this comatose state one year later, he found out that he was already assumed dead, his parents had moved away, and most unfortunately, his face was reconstructed by a mad doctor, Manabe Jun, to have the face of his crush, Kurimi Rina.
Well, even though the plot is quite interesting, it turns quite bland since it is the same story style for every of the first few chapters: Something happens which threatens his secret, or Rina gets in trouble, a bit of trouble here and there, but ultimately Rando would somehow find a solution to the problem. Not to mention the number of jokes relating towards Rando’s sexual reproductive organ…
Even so, every chapter is packed with laughter and the story is always unpredictable, making it a fun read. Despite the immaturity of the beginning chapters, the later chapters have a nice story progression that would satisfy those who bore through the story’s initial boring story style…
Also, even though it is labeled under a ‘Shounen’ genre, the protagonist journey through understanding females and his selfless love for his crush would most probably how this story appeals the female audiences. Well, that is AFTER you overlook the fact that this story is packed with loads of ecchi-ness (even though there is no exposure of privates), which will turn off A LOT of viewers after a few chapters.
The ending of the story is also unsatisfying, but it doesn’t have a sour taste to it in spite of it being a rushed ending.
Rating: 7/10 <<<<<<< DDD
In the nutshell: An enjoyable comedy for those who love gender-bending manga, but be warned of this manga’s extensive use of Ecchi and sexual jokes. Not recommended for those who hate ‘beat-around-the-bush’ stories, as that will spoil the mood.

Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni series (Anime;
Season 1: 26 episodes; Season 2 ‘Kai’: 24 episodes; OVA ‘Rei’: 5 episodes)
Genres: Comedy, Murder, Mystery, Supernatural
Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni, or literally When the Cicadas Cry, is a story situated during the period of June 1983, and tells the events of a group of children living in a rural village in Hinamizawa. Everything seems normal in the village, as assessed by the newly-moved in Maebara Keiichi. Until, that is, the annual Watanagashi Festival comes along and mysterious murders start happening, and people are claiming it is due to the Oyashiro-sama Curse…
The first season is separated into separated story arcs: Onikakushi-hen, Watanagashi-hen, Tatarigoroshi-hen, Himatsubushi-hen [Question Arcs] Meakashi-hen, Tsumihoroboshi-hen [Answer Arcs];
One thing is for sure though; each story arc will always have at least one of the main characters becoming paranoid and committing murder, so prepare and brace yourself for madness and violence because there are sure to have scenes to send chills down your spine.
Of course, there is censorship, so it is still an anime suitable for teenagers…
The second season, Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Kai, is the sequel to Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni, and shares more limelight on the events that happened in the first season. (*Note: The kanji ‘Kai; 解’in the title means to explain)
The second season is also separated in another few story arcs: Yakusamashi-hen [Question Arc] Minagoroshi-hen, Matsuribayashi-hen [Answer Arcs]. Events are explained with greater detail so that viewers are able to follow the story better. The real protagonist and antagonist of the story are also revealed here, and the second season explains causes of the murders in both seasons clearly, especially regarding the ‘Oyashiro-sama Curse’. The origin of the mystery is very interesting, and the way the mystery is slowly revealed is excellent. I assure you, every moment is packed with excitement that it will keep you glued to your seats.
Then where does the ‘Comedy’ come in?
As an anime will be boring if it is constantly fixated on the mystery theme… so some elements of laughter are also added to ease up any tension build up through the story…
Sorry. Wrong laughter picture.
By the way, there is OBVIOUSLY something wrong looking at your face…
Not as funny as other animes which specialize in the comedy sector, but quite likable considering this to be of a mystery genre.
The OVA, Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Rei, is a collection of extra episodes of Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni that happens after the probably after the mystery of the murders are solved. (*Note: The kanji ‘Rei; 礼’in the title means Gratitude) The story arcs are: Hajisarashi-hen, Saikoroshi-hen and Hirukowashi-hen. Unlike the first and second season, the OVA is specialized in the Comedy sector, so there is no mystery in these episodes. Nevertheless, it is a good laugh from the usual tense feeling from the original story…
... Not to mention all the fan-service here…
What can you expect? It's a swimsuit episode~! Every pervert man's dream...
But still, in my opinion, the whole Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni series is considered as one of the best murder-mystery stories I have ever known…
Rating: 9/10 <<<<<<<<< D

Ne, Ne. Yuki-san!
Hmm…? What is it, Mu-tan?
It’s the second chapter today. What do you want to do?
Eto… Maybe a manga this time, since we reviewed an anime in the previous chapter.
So… then what kind of manga do you want to review…?
Something involving intriguing murders…
WAIT! It’s only the second chapter! We can’t do that! KIDS WILL BE TERRIFIED IF WE START WITH A SCARY ONE!
But even for this blog, rarely are there any kids reading…
Oh, c’mon… Anything but that…
... Fine. What do you want?
Err… something gender-bender this time…
Okay, I’m fine with the gender-bender theme.
So then, any ideas?
...Then, how does “The Day of Revolution” sound?
Oh~! I LOVE THAT GENDER-BENDING MANGA!!!
Alright then! Introducing our first manga recommendation "The Day of Revolution"!
HAI!
______________________________________________
WARNING! LONG PARAGRAPHS OF MY ARGUMENT PRESENT UP AHEAD. THOSE UNABLE TO STAND LONG THEORIES SHOULD JUST SKIP PARAGRAPHS 4 AND 5 (highlighted in grey). THANK YOU FOR YOUR CO-OPERATION.
______________________________________________
The Day of Revolution (Manga; 2 volumes)
Genres: Comedy, Gender-Bending, Romance, Shoujo
The Day of Revolution is a story of a rebellious 16-year-old feminine-looking boy, Yoshikawa Kei, where he is hit on by his “fighting buddies” and was never cared for by his strict father. One day, he falls ill and is taken to the hospital, only to find out later that he was actually genetically female! Deciding to change his life, he sets out to restart his life, but this time as a female, Yoshikawa Megumi!
I’m not going to say that this manga promotes homosexuality, or that I approve of it, since when it comes down to the crux, the protagonist (technically) has always been a girl (Unless people read the lead as male, then the story becomes no different from any Yaoi manga…)
What I feel makes this manga so interesting is that the mangaka was able to showcase the feelings of how Kei/Megumi decides to live through the decision of changing from a male to a female, and the difficulties she faces to accept her new self physically and mentally.
But I just want to point out some things…
The case of what has been described in the manga (where the protagonist is phenotypically male but genetically female) does actually happen in real life (de la Chapelle syndrome). However, even with such a minority existing, many current societies are unable to accept these people, just because they seem weird. Ultimately, every single one of us are human, no matter male or female or somewhere in between. Even so, why do we ostracize them just because they are not totally male or totally female?
Even though my description makes the manga sound very serious, it is actually quite enjoyable (the above paragraph is mostly my deep interpretation of the story which I feel that I absolutely must type out. Ignore if need be.). The story is cute and light-hearted, and also in a way refreshing as I do not usually get this feeling from reading most other mangas. I also think that the art style is pretty good, since I usually get turned off when I see a poorly drawn manga…
Rating: 8/10 <<<<<<<< DD
In the nutshell: A nice and funny short manga that also in my opinion very meaningful if put into consideration. Not much of an ending though, to my dissatisfaction. Highly recommended for those who love gender-bending manga, but I suggest those who strongly opposes the idea of gender-change to not read this.
