To Aru Majutsu no Index, or A Certain Magical Index, is situated in a fictional town called Academy City. As its name states it, 80% of its 230,000 citizens are students, learning to create or enhance their psychic abilities. Psychics are differentiated into different levels from 0 to 5, with 0 being seemingly powerless.
This story takes the point of view from Kamijou Touma, a seemingly brainless and equally unlucky level 0. Just when he thought his life as bad enough, a young nun dropped out of the sky (literally) and landed into his life.
The young nun, called Index, was a living library (or index) upholding 103 grimores in her mind, which (obviously) makes her a constant target to enemies. Thus, this dragged him (unwillingly) into the previously unknown world of magic and an even crazier life than before.
Well, I must say, this anime was simply an exhilarating one. The anime has such a well thought-out plot, compared to some stories where there are many obvious loopholes in the story. This new fantasy world is drawn in so much detail that I feel as though it is real.
And since the art style of this anime is just simply excellent, you can expect action scenes to be both fluid and beautiful.
And of course, let’s not forget the all wonderful Seinen-genre jokes!
Although it is not pointed out in the genres, this anime is somewhat similar to a Harem one… Reason being is that practically most of the characters that Touma interacts with are GIRLS, which more or less admire/ are attracted to/ feel embarrassed around/ love Touma. Sadly, this is a SHOUNEN anime, so those who expect shoujo-love romances will be greatly disappointed.
Despite his great resemblance to many other Harem-genre heroes that were utterly clueless to their counter-part(s) feelings.
*On the side-lines with no relation to the story, the opening themes for this anime [Artist: Kawada Mami] are awesome!!!*
Rating: 9/10 <<<<<<<<< D
In the nutshell: An excellent anime that relieves the boredom that annoys you to no end. Fluidity in both storyline and action scenes are a dream come true for many. Comedy scenes are a little repetitive, despite being one of the main attractions for this anime. An ideal story for Shounen-action plot lovers for all, but those seeking for romance should say well-clear.
